Good news...
Well we are so happy to report that our new website is up and running. We also thought it would be FUN to have a little preview event of what we have in mind when we open our doors. If you are free this upcoming Sat, Nov 17th and happen to be in the NYC area you might want to join us for our pop-up shop event.
Since it's a small space and renovations are scheduled to begin later in the month, we are keeping the guest list small. We will randomly select 50 guests to join us along with a friend!

Marc Jacobs
Two year ago CEO of Marc Jacobs, Robert Duffy, promised that they were in the works of creating a plus-size line. The fashion industry, especially the plus-size community, has kept a watchful vigil on the company ever since.
Now skip to the present and we are still waiting to hear from them. Blogger and Marie Claire columnist Nicolette Mason has been the most vocal on this subject. Calling out the CEO in this Video saying, "I'd be your customer and you know it." She has been at the cusp of plus-size fashion and if anyone would hear what's new, she'd be the one.
As women with curves know all too well it is hard to find fashion forward clothes in your size. No need to worry because good news is here. Many new designers are creating great clothing for plus-size women and are beginning to shine on their own.
We have featured many on our blog and have links to them and the numbers continue to rise. On this episode of Big Girl in a Skinny World, (also seen below) hostess Marcy Guevara gives us a laundry list of new, and well know designers for you to browse.
As many (including us) would love to see such a well known designer as Marc Jacobs create a plus-size line of clothing, in the end there are several options already and more keep popping up.
As this blogger sees it, if Marc Jacobs waits too long, they may only be one voice in a chorus of plus-size designers instead of a featured soloist. Hurry up Robert! You may get lost in the crowd!

Body Image in the Media
When it comes to weight and celebrity, it seems that the media would like us to believe that too much is not a good thing. Whether that celebrity is world famous or local, weight is always near the top of list of things to criticize.
Case in point, Lady Gaga recently posted pictures of herself after gaining 25 pounds and was immediately criticized for it. She's admitted to struggling with eating disorders most of her life and publicly announced it on her website http://littlemonsters.com/ with photos of herself in yellow bra and panties showing her more curvaceous body.
Now, we are used to globally famous celebrities being picked at especially about their looks but now we are beginning to see a trickle down effect of sorts to our local celebrities.
News anchor Jennifer Livingston of WKBT in LaCrosse Wisconsin recently publicly confronted a letter writer that criticized her for gaining weight and told her that she was a poor example to our daughters as a public figure.
She confronts this issue directly in this statement.
The question is, are these women the sum of their looks or their accomplishments? In the media unfortunately the former is the rule.
These women are successful and talented in their respected fields and should be admired for them not whether or not they conform to the unrealistic standard of beauty created by the media and mainstream fashion.
As the issue of body image continues to create news, we must now more than ever reinforce positive self image to our young women.
It is reassuring to see women such as Lady Gaga and Jennifer Livingston stand up for themselves publicly and reassure their fans that they are happy with who they are.
